Competitions of any sort are always good in the sense that it motivates one to give more than the average or normal effort. The thought of besting others for a particular goal gives extra significance to being called a winner. But joining a competition where win or lose, you will still be a winner is even more rewarding. So is the case for this certain competition being initiated by Cordillerans here in the Gulf.
For this year's big event, the Cordillerans-UAE, a regional social community here in United Arab Emirates decided to hold a fitness competition enjoining all representative provinces of CAR to produce a team of individuals who are challenged to overcome weight problems. Three categories were identified namely: weight gain, weight loss, and model divisions. As implied, weight gain is for those who need to pack up more healthy mass, weight loss is for individuals who have to trim down a size or two, and model wannabe's are those who have normal body mass indexes (BMIs) but want to obtain model-worthy builds.
Interestingly, there were more willing participants who fell under the weight loss bracket. This is a clear indication that we highlanders are not exempted from this common health problem that's in line with weight mismanagement. More people are in for the challenge of shedding off those extra, unnecessary pounds that could be dangerous in the long run.
It is also noteworthy that while our regional organization here is spearheading a very health-advantageous contest, Dubai, our second home for now, is also promoting healthy living and prompting losing excess weight agenda with their "Your Weight in Gold" initiative. Local participants who get to reduce a minimum of two kilograms or more will get one gram of gold for each kilo lost. The gold reward is meant to encourage more participants who are bordering on obesity--an endemic health problem among many communities nowadays.
This is indeed a very ingenious move by Dubai's local government but it is with hopes that more than the material reward, the participants will be more mindful of the program's long term message. That they continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle even after the competition's duration for their own good and benefit.
For the Cordilleran organization, the intended reward/s is a far cry from the bullion offer of the government but with the eager and ready enthusiasm of the competition's participants, it is safe to declare that we already have winners even in the early phase of this three-month program.

Coincidentally, there are a number of health buffs and weight control experts who are members of the organization so they are playing big roles in administering the flow of the competition. They will not just assist on workout routines but will also guide the participants with their recommended diet regimens. All in all, it will be a holistic approach in addressing proper weight management.
Today's lifestyle has been gradually engineered to be convenient. So huge props to similar initiatives like these that make us rethink and reconsider our options on the things we do to our bodies. To all the participants of this organization's program, congratulations! We all know you are definite winners.
