BEING inside the jeepney oftentimes, feels like being within the microcosm of an entire community where varying individuals portray their different characteristics and behaviors. I know, it’s rather one of the most hassling experiences to be a commuter where we have to rush and mingle with strangers to be able to get to our respective destinations. But undeniably, it is as interesting to deal with the diverse people whom we share these jeepney rides with. In a single trip, one can usually meet some of the following personalities and superheroes (sarcasm inserted).
I DON'T understand why we are ever so eager to pounce on a person and make him a subject of our viciousness and uncalled criticisms. These past days, the rains had been harsh and mean but what's notably more wicked is how we become such a bunch of juveniles and make into a sensation (for all the wrong reasons) one citizen's mishap.
Okay, in all honesty's sake, Mr. L's statement did make him sound like an idiot and even arrogant. He was in a hysterical situation and in circumstances like this, we tend to lash or cry out even the most absurd sentiments. The possession of superior intellect is not an excuse that one can get stupid every now and then (as the fact that he's a summa cum laude graduate of the country's most prestigious university made the issue even more interesting to a lot of judgmental people). IT HAS probably cooled down already, the heat that was caused by the viral photo that proliferated on perhaps the most popular social networking site today (Hello FaceBook friends!).
Miss J, an FB user apparently had no inkling of idea how her post would dramatically and hugely affect one of the biggest group of indigenous people that if their reaction could be quantifiably and qualitatively measured, then it would have been enough to make the Cordillera mountains shudder in fury at such atrocity. Being labeled, misrepresented, and discriminated because of our ethnic origin has been plaguing us for decades. Despite movements and efforts to educate the majority and enlighten them on who we truly are, ethnic racism is still rampant. |
