If I were to travel to a tourist hot spot, one of my to-do things would be to check beforehand where to possibly spend my nights after the days' fun and explorations. This is obviously what these lawless scums had in mind when they put up a website that was supposed to be this haven of an accommodation nestled way up in the mountainous resort of Sagada, Mountain Province.
By now, you must be familiar with the Costa Luz Resort Club that has gained notoriety in social networks as it has finally come into public knowledge that this supposed resort or tavern of some sort is totally nonexistent. But for others who are not yet in the know, NEWS ALERT, Costa Luz Resort Club is a big fat, fraud. Whoever put up the (the resort's) website is shrewdly swindling unknowing tourists off their money. They ask for deposits and reservation payments from unsuspecting would-be visitors who are expectant of a cozy and even an ornate room when they reach Sagada.
The people behind this scam have cleverly uploaded beguiling features of accommodation packages that even included a pool! Now I don't know whether to applaud them for their 'ingenuity' or laugh at how ridiculous the idea is to place that as its added attraction.
Our hometown remains to be traditional. We capitalize on our natural resources as our premier tourist attractions. So the mere thought of a pool as a facility in a resort that's supposed to be located in our rustic and countrified village is just too far-fetched. Whichever way to look at it, this fraudulent modus is downright outrageous!
In Sagada, we have humble and cozy inns and resthouses, not pretentious whitewashed clubs. We have rivers, lakes and waterfalls. Not pompous pools in la-di-da spas. People love what we offer so do not go about swanking the place into something that it's not.
It's tragic that a tourist town's image can be tainted by felonious schmucks who take deceitful advantage of what our humble community had been willing to share to others.
If we let this idly pass like how we had been complacent with other related issues that somehow disrepute our town’s growing tourism industry, then we are indirectly inviting prospective racketeers who will take advantage of our town’s capitals. Sustainable tourism is not just about ensuring positive development while attempting to have the lowest possible impact on the environment and our local culture. In our case, it’s about guaranteeing that we keep true to what a lot of people have grown to love about us.
This flimflam continues to enrage a lot of locals and they're aggressively sharing posts on the net to hopefully help in letting others know about this hoax. It is with optimism too that the concerned offices and agencies do their part so no single soul be further victimized again.
Author's Note: As of posting time, the nonexistent resort club's site has been taken down. Hoping that's the end of it. Kudos to all these people who did their part in this information drive. For future visitors, take time for research before doing anything rash. #WeLoveSagada!
